Judy Whale – Flower City Soap Company

I was previously a colour matcher, screen printer, and for over 20 years, before I was laid off in the recession of 2008, I was a graphic artist in packaging and catalogues. I also have my own video editing company which began as a hobby in the early 2000’s and was part time until 2008, but then became full time.

My name is Judy, and I’m the creator and owner of Flower City Soap Company (formerly known as Splendiferous Handmade Fine Soaps)!
I am a wife and mother and a grandmother to five beautiful grandchildren! I am also a devout animal lover and Animal Justice and rescues are very dear to my heart. I started my soap business when I was 56 years old.

One of the other things that I really love about making soaps is the interest that my grandchildren take in it! One day when my grandson Zachary (who is now almost 12) was 7 years old, he gently advised me that companies needed to have a CEO and kindly told me that he was available. So, from that day on, he’s been the best CEO in the world and it became “we” instead of just “me”!

One of my main goals in life is being able to give back. Making soaps has allowed me so many opportunities to do just that and I am grateful to be able to give soaps to our local food bank (Ste. Louise Outreach Centre, Brampton) and help with fundraising for animal sanctuaries such as Esther the Wonder Pig (I make the “Esther Approved” soaps that they sell and other organizations such as All Paws Rescue.) I have also donated many baskets to be raffled off at events that raise money for Sick Kids, Cancer and other charities. Recently I was also able to donate soaps for packages that were being made up to give to the homeless in Toronto.

It is such a good feeling to know that I can be a part of so many good things, simply by making soaps!
